Abstract
Based on a critical analysis by Laura Crandiotto, the concept of contemporary
philosophical practices is addressed using Socratic dialogue as the main method to reveal
the meaning of practices of philosophical cafés and philosophical consulting that have
become practices of purely rational orality, ignoring that Socrates used the emotions of his
interlocutors as a means to discover the truth. This article is a first approximation to the
problem of the use of emotions in the philosophical cafés carried out by the animators of
the Philosophy in the City team. It seeks to investigate how the animator uses emotions to
make coffee, through the study of the case of a besieged practice entitled Does the question
offend?, which took place at the Vasconcelos Library on Monday, March 27, 2023. The
states are analyzed emotional during three moments: the planning of the coffee, during the
coffee and the feedback. It is identified that the emotions in the three moments correspond
to guilt in the planning, fear and flow during the philosophical coffee and happiness in the
feedback. It is worth mentioning that since it is the first case study to be carried out within
the Philosophy team in the City and it is a self-report, much remains to be investigated on
the subject. It was considered that to continue deepening it is necessary to analyze other
cases of coffees, preferably of other animators and begin to make comparisons between
the cases to identify similarities and discrepancies.
