Abstract
This article offers a theoretical reflection on the discourse of science communication,
differentiating it from traditional scientific discourse. Its objective is not to prescribe how
science should be disseminated or to establish its aims, but rather to understand the nature of
popular science discourse as a specific form of communication. The author highlights that
this type of discourse is structured with its own parameters that allow it to persuade a non-
specialized audience, using diverse media such as radio, theater, podcasts, and television. The
text is organized into three parts: first, the importance of studying popular science discourse
to improve its communicative effectiveness is raised; second, its didactic, subjective, and
dialogic character is analyzed, where the identity of the sender and receiver is present; third,
the application of tools from discourse studies—such as deixis, polyphony, and explanatory
sequences—is proposed to understand how it is produced and what makes it successful. It is
emphasized that each society relates to science differently, making it necessary to identify the
most appropriate discourses for specific contexts, such as the Mexican context. Scientific
enculturation is described as a complex process that goes beyond literacy, involving
democratic, environmental, and social values. In conclusion, the study of science
communication discourse allows us to recognize its tools, improve its quality, and foster a
scientific culture that contributes to understanding the role of science in society, encouraging
scientific vocations and strengthening the link between science and the public.
